"Write it do it" is a written communications exercise where you put your writing (and sketching) skills to the test.
ENGR1304 version:
Work in teams of two or three.
Phase 1 - Write:
You will be given a bag with a Lego creation in it, Create an instruction manual on how to build what you are given.
Phase 2 - Build:
Disassemble your Lego structure, place all of your parts + your instructions in your bag.
Exchange bags with another group in class. Use their instructions to try and re-create their original build.
Phase 3 - Review:
View pictures of the original. How well were you able to recreate it based on the instructions you were given?
Rate your instructions -
How clear and complete are they?
Was the organization appropriate?
What information was useful?
What was redundant?
Were sketches clear?
Were you able to recreate the original structure?
How quickly and efficiently could you work?
List strengths and weaknesses.
Discuss -
Talk with the group you exchanged instructions with. If you did this again, what would you change about the diagrams you created? What is needed to clearly communicate engineering designs?
